Family Legal Care provides parents and caregivers with the resources, support, and legal strategy they need to effectively self-represent and navigate the many steps required to successfully move their cases forward in New York State Family Court.

  • Family Legal Care’s bilingual (English/Spanish) Helpline, available via phone, email, and live chat, is the primary point of entry for individuals who need Family Legal Care’s support and guidance. This helpline provides legal information, schedules legal consultations with staff and pro bono attorneys, and makes referrals to partner organizations.
• Legal Consultations
  • Family Legal Care’s in-depth consultations enable self-represented litigants to meet with an attorney and receive legal advice and vital support in preparing a case. Working remotely, the attorneys consult with clients either by phone or by videoconference. The services are limited scope, meaning that the attorneys do not represent the litigants but rather empower them with information and tools to be their own advocates in Family Court.
  • Services are free of charge; regardless of income. To be eligible for a consultation, there must be a case in New York Family Court, that we have not met with the other party, and that there is not an attorney representing them on the case already.  Cases consultations can assist with include: child support, custody, visitation, guardianship, parentage and paternity.
