The Kinship Care Program will provide information, advocacy, referrals, and resources, up to date information on kinship care laws, as well as a friendly ear to any adult who is raising someone else’s child. This means: • Advocacy to help kinship caregivers apply for the Non-Parent Caregiver grant, Medicaid, and Childcare Subsidy (if applicable) at the Department of Social Services. Other services include: • Legal advocacy with Family Court paperwork and understanding the Family Court process To register for the support group Caregivers must call the kinship program first (see contact information below): Serves Broome and Tioga Counties. • Assistance with free school meals (breakfast & lunch) and addressing any issues around enrolling your kinship child in school.
•Guidance understanding the different child custody options
•Community resource connections
•Any issues around other types of benefits
• Help line for information and referrals to available community resources
• Kinship Family Events
• Support groups and workshops related to kinship care topics. We also utilize the Parenting A Second time Around curriculum
NOTE: Support Groups are held on alternate Wednesdays & Thursday evenings from 7:00PM-8:00PM
