Relatives as Parents Program (RAPP) supports caregivers who are raising the child of a relative or close family friend. Caregivers may be grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, or other trusted adults who have stepped in to provide care.

RAPP offers free educational, supportive, and recreational opportunities each month for both caregivers and children.

Services Include:

  • Monthly Family Meals – A healthy dinner, time to connect with other families, and fun family activities such as crafts and games.
  • Caregiver Support Group (Kingston) – Monthly peer support and shared learning. Food provided.
  • Youth 4-H Group (Ages 5–12) – Monthly activities focused on skill-building and connection.
  • Teen Group (Ages 13–18) – Monthly gatherings designed specifically for teens in kinship families.
  • Monthly Community Outings – Family-friendly trips such as picnics, plays, roller skating, bowling, zoos, and museums.
  • Trainings & Workshops – Offered throughout the year on topics including parenting, nutrition, financial planning, stress management, and more.
  • Referral Services – Assistance connecting families with community resources and partner agencies.

The Ulster County RAPP program creates opportunities for caregivers and children to build supportive relationships, strengthen family bonds, and connect with others who understand the unique joys and challenges of kinship care.
