Our Grandparents Advocacy Program is designed to promote the retention of children already living with caretaker relatives through support services targeted to children and/or caretakers, as needed.  We also work with relative caregivers that are trying to obtain custody of their relative children who are residing in foster care. We provide legal representation for income eligible grandparents and other relatives seeking to obtain custody in Erie County Family Court.  We serve grandparent and other relative headed families caring for a child under the age of eighteen. In addition, our program is open to families who reside in Erie County and meet the eligibility requirements for TANF assistance.

The project's core features emphasize a team approach that wraps services around the family.  The team is comprised of a Kinship Services Facilitator, Family Advocate and Attorney. The team is located at the Erie County Family Court and will directly walk a family through both the process and the system until their custodial decisions and arrangements have been made.  They will also follow up with linkages to existing community resources and monitor that families have been able to access them.
